Thailand’s Best Water Parks
We love a holiday to Thailand. There’s so much variety on offer in terms of culture, entertainment, amazing food and such friendly people. We’ve spent close to 3 months in total exploring different parts of Thailand as a family. But after some island hopping, temples, markets, museums, beach time and cooking schools, the kids, and us, from time to time just need some out and out pure fun. We’ve visited 4 of Thailand’s best water parks along our travels and here’s our experiences of the ones we’ve visited.
Ramayana Water Park, Pattaya.
We visited the Ramayana Water Park in early 2023 on our travels from Bangkok to Koh Chang. We were on our way for a week of island time and decided to stay for a couple of nights at Bang Saray, which is about half an hour from Pattaya, specifically so we could spend a full day at the water park. This is our favourite water park and it was so good we had to go there again a week later on our way back from Koh Chang too. I can see why it’s rated the #1 Water Park in Thailand on Tripadvisor.
There are 26 water slides for the family to enjoy, a couple of aquaparks for the younger kids, a huge wave pool, a lazy river, foam party pool and an activity pool with volleyball and an over-pool ninja course.
Rob had a go on the more extreme free fall and aqua loop slides. You have to be over 45kg’s so both kids were too light for both of these at the time, and I was not keen. My favourites were the Aqua Conda, Python and Aqua Coaster with rafts and double tubes for us to ride down together. We also had a blast on the four lane mat racer. The heaviest always won of course!
We decided to rent ourselves a cabana as we knew there was so much to do, we’d be there for the whole day. We had a base to cool off, order food and drinks, and for us adults to chill out for a bit while the kids were still going nuts. The food options were better than expected. I’m always dubious of the food options available when there’s a captive audience but we got some pretty good thai noodles, chicken satay and great ice creams.
At about $75US (2700 baht) for the whole family, it was pretty good value considering we were there from opening until closing time. The cabana at an extra 900 baht per day was also worth the extra spend. Definitely we’d be keen to head here again on another awesome Thailand trip. It’s totally deserving of it’s title as Thailand’s Best Water Park.
Black Mountain Water Park, Hua Hin
We visited the Black Mountain water park in early 2020. It was probably one of the main reasons we chose to head to Hua Hin for a couple of days. The area for us, other than that, had not that much to offer. The beach was very narrow and crowded and we didn’t find too much to do but the water park was super fun.
There’s a second water park in the area too – the Vana Nava Water Jungle. We weighed up which to visit and, with the ages of our kids at the time – 8 and 10, we thought there’d be more on offer at Black Mountain for their height and weights.
Black Mountain Water Park has 9 slides, a big wave pool, a long lazy river and some fun kids water play areas too. The entry fee of 600THB for adults and 300THB for kids was great value. That’s about $50US for the family for a whole day of fun. Bargain!
It also wasn’t too busy, which made queues short and more time for slides. We had an awesome family day out but the park doesn’t have those larger, more extreme slides for the teenagers or more adventurous.
West Wonder Waterpark, Kanchanaburi
I think this place might now be permanently closed, according to recent online reports, so I’ll just quickly skip across what we did here. Perhaps it’s another casualty of Covid. We visited in early 2019 and had an absolute blast. Our kids were 7 and 9 at the time and it was perfect for that age group.
There were two pretty adventurous slides, which Rob had a few turns on but the majority of the park was good, family fun. Our favourites were the rainbow slides where all four of us could race together down in separate lanes, and the two wide, looping, twisting good fun slides appropriate for all ages. The kids had fun at the aqua playground too while we grabbed snacks and drinks.
Splash Jungle, Phuket
We decided to stay at Splash Beach Resort in Mai Khao, Phuket at the end of our 2019/2020 month in Thailand. We were flying out of Thailand from Phuket back to New Zealand and what a way to finish an amazing holiday. It was a proper highlight for everyone.
Admission to the water park was included in the package we booked with the hotel, and was awesome value for a night’s accommodation and what turned out to be two half days at the water park too. Arriving at lunchtime at the hotel, we were able to drop our bags with reception, change and spend the afternoon on the water slides. We returned to the water park the next morning too until we had to get ready for our flight at about 2 in the afternoon. The airport was only a few minutes away so it really felt like we got the best out of our day staying here.
Highlights for us were racing each other on the Whizzard, the Family Raft with its surprise drops, twists and turns, and the double tubes on the Super Bowl, Boomerang and tube slides. The park has lots for everyone with a lazy river, aqua play areas, wave pool and decent dining options too. We shared some pizzas from their wood-fired pizza oven which were delicious.
Aside from the water park, the hotel was great too. There were a few on-site dining options, a swimming pool, spa and it’s next to the beach. It’s huge though, a much bigger resort style hotel than we’re used to. Buffet breakfast was in a totally different building and the shuttle bus was needed to navigate around the grounds. We’d definitely stay here again if we return to Phuket – the kids wouldn’t let us stay anywhere else!
There’s still a few more of Thailand’s best water parks to explore on future trips – on Koh Samui, Khao Yai and a couple in Bangkok.
